HOME CARE INSTRUCTIONS AFTER LASER TREATMENT
- Take 2 – 3 ibuprofen or Tylenol tablets every 6 hours for the first 24 hours after laser therapy. Keeping an anti-inflammatory/analgesic in your system will decrease or prevent post operative discomfort.
- Do NOT brush or floss at all in the treated areas for the first 24 hours. Gentle brushing can be resumed after 24 hours with a manual toothbrush that has been run under hot water to soften the bristles. Do NOT use your electric toothbrush for one week.
- Gentle rinsing with your ClosysII rinse is fine for the first 24 hours. Do not be surprised if your gums are still bleeding slightly for the first 24 – 48 hours.
- Avoid acidic, spicy, rough and crunchy foods for the first 24 hours after treatment. Resume normal eating habits after the first day.
- If any areas are particularly sensitive, place Vitamin E on those spots. Make a small hole in one end of the tablet, squeeze out a little liquid and rub onto the treated areas.
- Contact flossing only for the first week after treatment. Avoid pushing the floss under the gums for one week. Resume normal flossing routine after one week.
- The treated area will feel different to the tongue for about a week. It may feel rough at first, then over a few days, the area will tighten up and the teeth may feel longer in those areas. As the gums are healing, the inflammation disappears and the tissue will be laying tighter against the teeth.
